OVERVIEW
Conceptualizing an app for a well-established wood-fired grill company was an exercise in blending old and new company culture and direction. Three things defined the work: a need to attract new & younger users, creating an easily usable experience for the current middle aged market, and taking the style-heavy visual brand and condensing it into a mobile experience. The app was built to work with a new product: a wifi connected grill, a first for the company.
DURATION
November 2014 - June 2015
METHODS
Stakeholder Discovery, User Research, Information Architecture, Wireframing, Workflows, Prototypes (low and high fidelity).
MY ROLE
This project was extremely collaborative, and I worked alongside a set of industrial designers for the duration. I was responsible for stakeholder discovery, research analysis, information architecture, system usability, and visual design.
DELIVERABLES
As work transitioned to the external development team I handed off the research-based user flow, current visual direction, and interactive prototypes.
RESULTS & NEXT STEPS
After handoff to the development agency, the initial app was built on the designed framework and has since become a keystone in the connected grill strategy for the client.
